TIPWA is the only statewide association that exclusively represents the interests of the produced water industry.
Produced water is defined by Chapter 122 of the Texas Water Code as fluid oil and gas waste produced through the production process. Generally, for every barrel of oil that is produced there are 3 barrels of water. In some cases it can be as high as 20 barrels. In the U.S., approximately 20-25 billion barrels of produced water are generated annually. The Permian Basin alone generated over 8 billion barrels in 2021. Safe and economical transportation, recycling and disposal of this water is critical to the ongoing production of energy in our state. Without it, energy production and our economy suffers.
TIPWA educates state policy makers on the issues facing the produced water industry and advocates for common sense solutions to the challenges facing our state. We do this with a fact based approach via direct dialog with decision makers.
